[12-20-2017]The Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase or use Vipro®, a product promoted for sexual enhancement, for two separate reasons. This product was identified during an examination of international mail shipments by FDA officers. The FDA has determined that the use of Vipro® for sexual activity is a violation of Section 109(b) (relating to marketing, promotion, and advertising of impotence drugs) and Section 109(c) (relating to promotion and sponsorship of sexual activity) and that Vipro® is not a safe drug for use in men.
FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Vipro® is a potent inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) in man. cGMP promotes smooth muscle relaxation and enhances contractile responses to mechanical stresses, which contribute to the erection of the penis. Vipro® has not been studied in humans and is not approved for use in men.
